A Perfect Day

Stopped in traffic

View from the driver's seat

Grey skies over my neighbour's house

Lovely and gloomy in my front yard

Most people would regard a wet day as a drag.  Some people even feel depressed when skies submit to the release of pent up rain clouds, complaining of the inconvenience to their daily routine.  I am pleased to say that I am not one of these people.  I love rainy days.  There is something very soothing and calming to me about rain.  Just knowing that those droplets of water have fallen from the top most recesses of our planet is an amazing thought.  I feel comforted when I hear them tap dancing on my roof.  One of my favourite things to do is snuggle in bed, while it rains or storms outside, listening to the water's gentle lullaby.

As you know from my last post, it has been extremely humid over here.  Well, today, the atmosphere finally relented and gave way to an electric storm.  As you can see from my pictures, it was pleasantly gloomy. Ha! My mum and I went out for lunch and a spot of shopping in this glorious weather and I ended up with a pleasing little bundle of goodies.

Hello Kitty plastic bags (30 pack) | $2.80

I am a total weakling when it comes to Hello Kitty.  So, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to bag me some...well, bags from the cute little feline.  I thought it was great value for the price and I know they will come in handy.

Pink bunny purse | $1.00

Up until now, I have been carrying my earphones around in a little plastic case.  Whilst this has protected them well inside my bag, I have always felt it was a bit chunky.  Now that I have this bunny purse, I can still keep my earphones from strangling everything inside my bag whilst providing me with a softer alternative.

Compact mirror | $4.00

Over the years, I have collected many handbags. Some I use frequently, others on the odd occasion.  For those I use a lot, I like to keep a compact mirror in each, rather than constantly transferring just one.  When I saw this bedazzled compact today, I knew it belonged in one of my bags!

Notebook | $2.80

I have something in common with this one

How absolutely adorable is this notebook?! I love the look of the pages and find the little sayings quite amusing.  Can't wait to give someone a note!

Hello Kitty ballpoint pen (black ink) | $7.00

Cute Key automatic pencil | $3.00

I will admit I don't need anymore pens or pencils, but I couldn't go past these gorgeous offerings from Hello Kitty and Cute Key.  Plus, they were on sale for 30% off the regular price.  Irresistible.

Princess slapband | $1.00

Selene photobombed this one hehe

I bought this last item as a bit of a laugh at myself because, well, I can kind of be a princess at times.  Heh.

So, as you can see, I went totally kawaii on this lovely rainy Wednesday.  Sooooooo damn satisfying!  I shall leave you with a little pic showing what I wore today...

Outfit of the day...
Snow White Tshirt | Pressie from sis when she visited Melbourne
Blue tartan skirt | Fashion Fair $20.00
Black tribal footless tights | Woolworths $8.00
Blue denim rocking horse shoes | Shoobiz $50

Some of My Makeup Bag Staples

Hey there everyone!  Hope you are all doing ok.  Things have been a tad busy over my way recently, but I have managed to squeeze in some time for blogging, woot! Today I would like to share some of the beauty products which I love using.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara | $16.95

Rimmel London has become a favourite of mine.  I feel that their products have improved immensely over time in terms of usability and variety.  Rimmel offer a great range of mascaras (many of which I am yet to sample), but since buying Scandaleyes Retro Glam I have not been tempted to try a different mascara.

Scandaleyes applies easily and provides good coverage on the first application.  The hour-glass brush plumps lashes, fanning them out for a wide-eyed look.  Two coats of this mascara gives the impression of falsies as it coats lashes individually with no clumping.  This particular formula is smudge proof but not water resistant, so it can be easily washed off with soap and water.

Australis Lip & Cheek Combo | $10.99

Australis is another brand which has evolved well over time.  I love browsing its makeup display in stores, as there is always something fresh and new to see.  Recently, I ran out of blush and so went on the hunt for a new one.  I prefer creme blushes as opposed to the powder variety, as I feel that creme ones are easier to blend and look more natural.  For some reason, however, it is difficult to find creme blushes where I live.  So, when I spotted Australis' Lip & Cheek Combo, I was really happy.  This particular one is called "Dusk til Dawn".

I'm not sure if one shade is for the lips and the other for the cheeks, so just interchange each one depending on my mood.  I love how this product is more of a tint than highly-pigmented colour.  This makes application simple, as you can build up the colour to whatever strength you like. I have also tried the shades on my lips and like how they look against my complexion.

If I had to find something negative about Lip & Cheek Combo, it would be its fragrance.  I find it quite off-putting and wish that Australis had given it a nicer scent, especially since it is to be worn on places near the nose.  Apart from this though, I really like this product.

Bloom Eye Paints | $16.00

Eye shadow is a great way of highlighting your peepers and giving them added depth.  As someone who has particularly oily eyelids, I have always had problems finding eye shadows that don't melt away or crease throughout the day.  Cosmetic experts advise people with oily lids to steer clear of creme formulas and stick to powder shadows.  So, even though I am more drawn to creme eye shadows, I have always used powder ones.

You can imagine, then, how excited I was when I discovered this little product.  Bloom Eye Paints "are a long wearing cream eye shadow that sets to a smooth powdery finish".  I love that it comes in a tube so you can squeeze however amount you like onto your finger.  True to form, these eye paints are applied as a creme then set to a matte finish, which lasts longer than most creme shadows.  The highly-pigmented formula is easily blended and has a faint shimmer.  Bloom Eye Paints come in a range of different shades, however I feel the chocolate one suits my eye colour and complexion best.

MAC Blacktrack Fluidline | $32.00

If you are searching for a long-wearing, budge-proof, water-proof gel eyeliner, then look no further than MAC Blacktrack.  What can I say, this is a little miracle in a jar.  No other liquid or gel liner that I have used has come close to this product.  I apply it with a brush from an old liquid liner, but any eyeliner brush would do the job.

Dot Blacktrack along your top lash line, joining each dot at the end to form a solid black line.  Follow with a flick at the corner of your eye to create the perfect cats-eye.  I also like to smooth a bit of Blacktrack onto my lower waterline for a more defined look.  For a dramatic smoky eye, blend this product over your whole eyelid with an eyeshadow brush then follow with a powder shadow in any dark colour for a long-lasting, gothic effect.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about a few of my beauty must-haves.  I recommend that everyone tries them at least once.  But I just know that you will go back for more!

Two Ways To Wear Leggings

Two Ways To Wear Leggings

1.  Diane Von Furstenberg red top / River Island print legging, $24 / Leather booties /  Pendants necklace / Barrette hair clip

2.  Silvian Heach polka dot top, $135 / Balenciaga leather legging / Eytys suede shoes, $290 / Charlotte Russe head wrap headband

Hi guys!  As always, I was thinking about clothes and accessories, so decided to do a post on one of my favourite wardrobe staples - the leggings.  Love, love, love leggings! Seriously, if I could I would probably live in them.  They're so funky and trendy, yet comfy and practical.

So, here I have created two different looks involving two different pairs of leggings.  The first one could be classed as a dressy outfit whilst the second is more casual.  Hope you like them!

Some of My Favourite Perfumes

Like most gals I know, wearing perfume is part of everyday life.  Even if I'm staying home for the day, I still like spritzing myself with one of my favourite fragrances.  Apart from the obvious benefit of wearing perfume (to smell nice), there are other reasons why it has become a popular part of women's lives.

First, scent is a major trigger of memories.  If you're doing something special or feeling content about where you're at in life, buy a new fragrance and wear it.  From then on, every time you smell that scent, you will be reminded of your happy occasion.  The other day, I walked up to a shop assistant and she instantly said to me, "Are you wearing Champ Elysees? I wore that on my wedding day!" I could tell from her energy that it had brought back fond memories for her.

Secondly, many perfumes have relaxation properties, particularly those with citrus and floral notes.  You may not realise it, but wearing fragrances containing such scents will keep your stress levels at a minimum.

Lastly, perfumes are an instant mood booster.  I know that if I'm having an especially bad day, the aroma of something pleasant can lift my mood considerably.  Pay attention to various scents and fragrances to see how they impact on your feelings.

Over the years, I have worn many different perfumes.  There are some I have worn just once and then there are those that I keep coming back to.  Here are a few of the fragrances that I never tire from...

Poison by Christian Dior ($130 50ml) | Spicy, woody, fruity.  Includes notes of coriander, wild berries, orange honey, tuberose and opopanar.  A dark and mysterious perfume that I tend to wear when I'm goth-ing it up

Champ Elysees by Guerlain ($146 75ml) | Delicately fruity and floral.  Includes notes of mimosa, rose, almond and melon. This is a day-time perfume that I wear often.

Naughty Alice by Vivian Westwood ($75 75ml) | Sensual and musky.  Includes notes of black rose, violet and ylang-ylang.  If I'm going to a party or special occasion, I find myself reaching for this particular scent.  An added bonus is the lovely trinket wrapped around the bottle's neck which can be worn as a bracelet.

Cheeky Alice by Vivian Westwood ($60 75ml) | Feminine, provocative and intense.  Includes notes of lily of the valley, peony, rose and musk.  Promoted as the "sexier older sister" of Naughty Alice, this perfume is mesmerising and magical.  It is another fragrance I tend to wear when going out.  And, another bonus - it also includes a bracelet for you to wear!

So, go on and put that nose to work.  Once you have found a scent (or scents) that you are fond of, stick to it so that it becomes your signature fragrance.

2. Boo Bitches Halloween Shirt ($30) | I wouldn't only wear this around Halloween, it's too cool to hide in the closet.

4. Oasis Peter Ting Cropped Jumper ($64) | Have always loved anything with a bird print or design on it.

5. Cat's Meow Ring | Too cute! Anything cat-related will always have a place in my closet

7. Muggle Born Harry Potter Inspired Quote Ring ($14) | As a Harry Potter fan, this ring belongs on my finger.
